Maternity Photos in the Great Smoky Mountains
Plan a maternity photo session in the Great Smoky Mountains — best locations, when to schedule, what to wear, and what to expect.

There's something quietly perfect about photographing motherhood against the Smokies. Soft mountain light, golden meadows, the kind of breeze that catches a long dress — it makes maternity photography feel less like a session and more like a real, slow evening. Here's how I plan maternity photos in the Great Smoky Mountains.
When to schedule a maternity session
The sweet spot is 28–34 weeks. You're clearly showing, baby is well-positioned, and you usually still have the energy for an evening session. Anything past 36 weeks is workable but harder on you — and we want this to feel calm, not exhausting.
The best locations in the Smokies
- Wildflower meadows in Wears Valley — soft golden grass, flat walking.
- Foothills Parkway overlooks — layered mountain backdrop, no hiking.
- Roaring Fork — filtered forest light, intimate and quiet.
- A private cabin with a mountain-view deck — comfortable and personal.
What to wear
Long, flowing dresses in cream, sage, dusty mauve, deep forest, or warm rust photograph beautifully against the Smokies. Fitted shapes that show the bump cleanly are better than loose, body-hiding cuts — you came for maternity photos. I keep a small client closet of maternity gowns available to borrow at no extra cost; ask when you book.
Bringing your partner and kids
Maternity sessions can be just you, or you and your partner, or your whole family welcoming the new baby in. I always recommend at least a few photos of just you — these images are about this season of your body and your life, and you'll want them.
What the session feels like
Slow. Unhurried. We'll walk a little, sit a little, and I'll guide you into movement and prompts that flatter the bump and the light. No stiff posing, no holding a position until your arms shake. Bring water and a snack — pregnancy and golden hour both move fast.
Indoor and rainy-day options
Smoky Mountain weather is unpredictable, especially in spring. For maternity sessions I always offer a rescheduling window and a covered backup plan — usually a cabin with great natural window light. Some of my favorite maternity images have been taken on cloudy, soft-light days.
Booking timeline
Book around 20–24 weeks so you have flexibility on dates. If you're traveling to the Smokies for a babymoon, send your dates as soon as you have them — weekends fill up faster than weekdays.
Whether you live in Sevierville or you're driving in for a long weekend, a Smoky Mountain maternity session is a soft, beautiful way to mark the season before everything changes. I'd love to photograph yours.
