  • Layered Smoky Mountain ridges from a Foothills Parkway overlook at sunset

    Location 01

    Foothills Parkway

The most iconic Smoky Mountain view — layered blue ridges stretching in every direction. Wide, easy pull-offs mean grandparents, strollers, and large family groups can all reach the view without hiking. It's my most-requested location for Gatlinburg family photos.

    Best season
Late April through early June for green ridges; mid-October for peak color.
    Best time of day
Golden hour, roughly 90 minutes before sunset — the ridges glow.
    Best for
Family · Couples · Engagement · Extended Family
  • Family walking beside the Little Pigeon River in Greenbrier, Great Smoky Mountains

    Location 02

    Greenbrier

A quiet, tree-lined section of Great Smoky Mountains National Park with clear rivers, mossy boulders, and rhododendron thickets. Perfect for lifestyle family sessions where kids can splash barefoot in the shallows. Feels wild and private, even at peak season.

    Best season
Late spring through early fall for lush greens and warmer river days.
    Best time of day
Late afternoon — soft light filters through the canopy without harsh contrast.
    Best for
    Family · Maternity · Couples
  • Extended family in a golden meadow in Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountains

    Location 03

    Cades Cove

An 11-mile open valley ringed by mountains, with historic cabins, split-rail fences, and wide golden meadows. Wildlife cameos are common — deer at sunset, the occasional black bear at a respectful distance. One of the most beautiful engagement session locations in the park.

    Best season
Late spring for wildflowers; late October for gold light on the fields.
    Best time of day
The last 90 minutes of daylight, once the crowds have started leaving the loop.
    Best for
    Couples · Engagement · Family
  • Couple on smooth river rocks along the Little River near Townsend

    Location 04

    Little River

Between Townsend and Elkmont, the Little River winds through the park with polished stones, deep pools, and cathedral-like tree cover. Romantic, cinematic, and often quieter than the Gatlinburg side of the park — a favorite for engagement and couples photography.

    Best season
Late spring through early fall. Winter days can be stunning after light snow.
    Best time of day
Overcast or late afternoon — the tree canopy softens direct sun beautifully.
    Best for
    Couples · Engagement · Maternity
  • Expecting mother in a flowing dress at Metcalf Bottoms in the Great Smokies

    Location 05

    Metcalf Bottoms

A peaceful, open picnic area on the Little River with soft grassy meadows and easy river access. Flat, walkable ground makes it ideal for maternity sessions and families with young children. Away from the busiest tourist corridors.

    Best season
Spring through early fall for green fields; late October for warm color.
    Best time of day
Golden hour, when the river reflects warm light onto the meadow.
    Best for

  • Maternity portrait in a wildflower field near Wears Valley in the Smoky Mountains

    Location 06

    Hidden Mountain Fields

Private wildflower and hayfield meadows scattered along Wears Valley Road and outside Sevierville. These are the quiet spots most visitors never find — soft, dreamy backgrounds with mountains as a backdrop. I choose each field to match your session style and the season.

    Best season
Late April through early June for wildflowers; September for warm hayfields.
    Best time of day
The final hour before sunset, when the fields turn honey-gold.
    Best for
    Maternity · Couples · Engagement · Family
  • Couple on the grounds of Dollywood's DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge

    Location 07

    DreamMore Resort

Dolly Parton's DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge offers manicured grounds, elegant porches, and mountain-view walking paths — a polished alternative to fully natural settings. Ideal for guests staying on property who want to walk to their session.

    Best season
Year-round; especially beautiful in fall and at the holidays.
    Best time of day
Late afternoon, before dinner service, when grounds are quiet.

  • Couple embracing on a Smoky Mountain overlook at golden hour

    Location 08

    Mountain Overlooks

The private and semi-private overlooks I return to across the Foothills Parkway, Newfound Gap Road, and roads above Gatlinburg. Sweeping ridge views, dramatic light, and easy access from the car — the shortcut to the Smoky Mountain photo you've been picturing.

    Best season
Fall for color; winter for clean, atmospheric skies.
    Best time of day
Golden hour into blue hour — the light on the ridges changes every minute.
